Help Maggie’s support people with cancer by volunteering for their Collection Tin campaign

Date published: 25 March 2019

Cancer charity Maggie’s is looking for enthusiastic and friendly volunteers to help them raise money and awareness for Maggie’s as part of their Collection Tin Campaign.

This is a great opportunity for anyone who has a few hours to spare every couple of months to support a local charity.

The role will involve finding new venues in your local community to display collection tins, such as pubs, newsagents, takeaways and doctor surgeries, as well as emptying and replacing existing tins every few months.

Placing collection tins out and about in the community is a really simple way to raise lots of money, as well as lots of awareness for Maggie’s and they can’t do it without your help.

Tricia Golden, who has already signed herself up said: “Oldham is so lucky to have a Maggie’s centre. But it needs the support of local people to provide the services that are so valued by its users. Every Maggie’s centre has to be self-funded, so I am collecting to raise funds to support the building and the services within it.”

To hear more or let Maggie’s know you’re interested in volunteering, please contact Tom or Laura on 0161 989 0553.

Maggie’s Oldham follows the ideas about cancer care originally laid out by Maggie Keswick Jencks. Maggie lived with advanced cancer for two years and was determined that she should not ‘lose the joy of living in the fear of dying’.

In order to live more positively with cancer, Maggie believed people needed information, stress-reducing strategies, psychological support and the opportunity to meet other people in similar circumstances in a relaxed and beautiful setting.

Built in the grounds of The Royal Oldham Hospital, Maggie’s Oldham is a warm and welcoming place, with qualified professionals on hand to offer an evidence-based core programme of support that has been shown to improve physical and emotional wellbeing.

Maggie’s Oldham relies on voluntary donations to develop its unique, high quality programme of support. The charity’s aim is to make the biggest difference possible to people living with cancer and their family and friends.
