Ladies from Centre of Wellbeing, Training and Culture wellbeing café visit Willows Dementia Hub and British Muslim Heritage Centre

Date published: 17 April 2019

A group of 15 women from the wellbeing café at the Centre of Wellbeing, Training and Culture (CWTC), recently visited The Willows Dementia Hub in Rochdale and the British Muslim Heritage Centre in Manchester.

The Willows Dementia Hub at Springhill Resource Centre is a specialist centre providing high-quality support and care for people living with dementia in Heywood, Middleton, and Rochdale, and their families.

A guided tour was given by the Willows’ Chief Officer, Gail Whitehead, with the group very impressed by the family rooms for relatives and the child-friendly play area.

The main purpose of this visit was to raise awareness about dementia hubs, services and facilities so that people are better able to understand and take control of their own care choices.

As part of their heritage and memories visits, the group also visited the British Muslim Heritage Centre in Manchester on 20 March.

Having never visited before, the women were delighted to see the historical artefacts as part of the British Muslim heritage.

They also attended the House of Wisdom and Sultans of Science exhibitions, which showcased Islamic contributions to modern science.

One of the participants commented: “It was a very pleasant experience, as I never knew this centre existed. I have new awareness of Muslim historical collections and knowledge on the scientific contribution of Muslim scholars in the medicine world.”

The women were very inspired by the centre’s other social and cultural activities that were on offer, such as the youth clubs, spiritual and educational activities and family clubs.
