Soul train pulling into Rochdale for Feel Good Festival

Date published: 07 May 2019

Two more acts have been added to the line-up for this year’s Rochdale Feel Good Festival.

Leading northern soul band The Northern Soultrain will play the main stage on Saturday 10 August.

The Lancashire based nine piece have been filling dance floors and ballrooms for over a decade, playing the best Northern Soul anthems from the likes of Wigan Casino, Twisted Wheel and Blackpool Mecca.

Now fronted by charismatic lead singer David John Jaggs, the band have been going from strength to strength, attracting rave reviews and playing sold out shows at iconic venues including Blackpool Tower Ballroom, Manchester’s Band on The Wall and Ascot Race Course.

It will be an extra special show for two of the original members of the band, said trumpet player Rod Wilson: “Lee Howson and myself are Rochdale born and bred and we can’t wait to bring our big Northern Soul party back to our hometown.”

They’ll be joined by singer/songwriter Megan Dixon Hood and her band.

The Cheshire born 23-year-old combines haunting melodies with beautiful soaring vocals, delivering atmospheric and spine tingling music with heartfelt lyrics. Her music, described as alternative art rock/folk has been played on BBC Radio 2 and she’s enjoyed great receptions at festivals across the UK.

Rag ‘n’ Bone Man invited her to join him on his sell out Manchester show back in 2015 and Megan, who’s supported by BBC Introducing, released her new EP ‘Tales From The North’ in 2018. Two of the enchanting tracks were selected for the worldwide Cafe Nero playlist and she’s previously been named one of the top 5 Manchester bands and acts to watch out for.

The Northern Soultrain and Megan Dixon Hood will be joined by previously announced headliner The Coral, pop/rock band The Hoosiers, rock ‘n’ roll band Alias Kid, new singer/songwriter Ione, Carribean pop act The Curious Incident and more to be announced, including a local battle of the bands winner.

Rochdale Feel Good Festival returns on Saturday 10 August, with entertainment, family entertainment, food and culture. There will be live music across indoor venues, a main stage against the backdrop of the town hall sponsored by The Flying Horse Hotel, plus quality food and drink.
