Used needles discarded near a primary school in Castleton – again!

Date published: 22 May 2019

Used needles have been discarded near a primary school in Castleton for a second time.

The syringes were found on Hanover Street near St Edward’s School on Wednesday 15 May by a local resident, who subsequently reported the drug-related paraphernalia to Rochdale Borough Council, the police and a local housing association.

Mark Widdup, director of neighbourhoods at Rochdale Borough Council, said: “We remove syringes and drug paraphernalia in areas that are open to the public as a priority and ask that anyone who sees syringes or other litter report them online or by calling 0300 303 8884.”

The school also reported the needle and let parents know that it was being sorted but to be aware.

Used syringes were previously discarded near the same school in September 2018.

Greater Manchester Police and the housing association have been contacted for comment.
