Littleborough woman to donate hair to charity

Date published: 22 May 2019

A woman from Littleborough will be donating her hair to charity after raising £1,100 for the Little Princess Trust.

Grace Crampton, 28, a housing enforcement officer at Manchester City Council, wishes to raise enough money for two wigs – £1,100 – for the charity, which supplies real-hair wigs for children with conditions that result in hair loss such as alopecia or chemotherapy.

Grace said: “I’ve been thinking about donating my hair for over a year now, weighing up pros and cons of how I would feel and how I would be perceived being bald. Last week I was talking to my husband and he made a point about people who have cancer or an illness where they lose or never grow hair; they don't have over a year to think about the decision.

“I decided to donate my hair not only to pass on the enjoyment of my hair to somebody else, but to also prove that being bald is beautiful and hair does not have to define a person."

Grace continued: “I chose the Little Princess Trust as they are solely funded by donations and to date have provided 6,000 free real hair wigs to children and young adults in need.

“I can't wait to be part of this amazing charity: their work is inspiring and even one or two wigs being made from what I raise and shave would be one or two more than before.”

Once £1,100 has been raised, Grace will donate her hair.
