Trains from Rochdale to Leeds cancelled due to ‘trespass incident’ at Leeds station

UPDATE: A man has been removed from harm's way by British Transport Police West Yorkshire. All lines at Leeds have now reopened with Rochdale services resuming this afternoon (30 May). Trains will continue to be severely disrupted with delays of up to 180 minutes, cancellations and diversions.

Trains running from Rochdale to Leeds have been cancelled on Thursday (30 May) due to a police incident at Leeds Railway Station.

As of 9.45am, all lines in Leeds are blocked due to trespassers on the line with all trains running through Leeds cancelled or delayed.

Northern has released the following statement: “Disruption is expected until 3pm.

“All services arriving to and departing from Leeds are currently being disrupted due to a trespass incident at Leeds station. Passengers intending to travel towards Leeds before lunchtime are advised not to travel by train and seek alternative methods of transport.

“An estimate cannot yet be given as to when services will return to normal. The emergency services are on site, but the person has not been removed.

“Due to the amount of services in and out of Leeds, disruption is expected to continue for some time.

“Leeds station is currently being evacuated and passengers are advised to find alternative methods of travel. Due to the number of routes affected it is not possible to cover them with road replacement transport.

“All trains coming towards Leeds are currently in the process of being sent to the nearest station to allow passengers to alight safely and try and find alternative modes of transport.”

Speaking via social media, British Transport Police West Yorkshire said: “Officers are currently at Leeds station following the concern for the welfare of a person in a precarious position.

“We're working to bring the incident to a safe resolution as quickly as possible. Station is currently closed, please check with National Rail before travelling.”

Customers are advised to delay travelling until later today if possible. Please ensure you check before travelling.
