A brass band, a friends group, In Bloom and a Scout group share £43k windfall

Littleborough Brass Band, Friends of Hare Hill Park, Pennines in Bloom and a Scout Group are among the groups celebrating their selection to receive grants through the Crook Hill Community Fund. The latest deserving projects join a growing list of over 50 schemes which have received grant support since the fund began in 2016.

Littleborough Brass Band were delighted to hear their project had received £2,000 through the fund.

Ann Whittaker, Secretary and Treasurer of the Band commented: “This grant will make a huge difference to the players of the band and also to the local community. It will allow us to raise our profile, along with making community members proud of their village brass band who support many local and regional events and contests.”

£899 was awarded to Whitworth Amateur Musical and Dramatic Society for a new sound desk and £6,120 was awarded to The Friends of Whitworth Youth (FWY) for their project ‘Dads, Me and Tea’.

Sarah Al-Warfali, FWY Project  Leader commented: “We are very grateful to the Crook Hill Fund for funding us to expand our Dad’s, Me and Tea project, we are looking forward to more provision for Dad’s and their children to spend quality time together!”

Other projects being supported include Whitworth Town Council, Littleborough Arts Festival, Whitworth Historical Society, Wardle Football Club, Rochdale (Whitworth) 41st Scout Group, Friends of Hare Hill Park, and Pennines in Bloom.

The funding for the Community Fund is provided by Crook Hill Wind Farm which is managed by independent investment firm, Vantage Infrastructure with support of Partnership for Renewables.

The fund distributes £35,000 annually over the 20 – 25 year lifetime of the project. Groups located within a 5km radius of the wind farm can apply for grants of between £250 and £10,000. The fund is being administered by national charity GrantScape.
