Rochdale Santander raise £1,730 for Springhill Hospice

Date published: 16 June 2019

Rochdale Santander raised £1,730 for Springhill Hospice at their charity fundraising day on Tuesday (11 June).

Held at the Rochdale Santander Branch on Yorkshire Street, employees hosted a raffle, tombola, ‘name the bear’ event and concluded an auction that had been running between the Santander staff in Manchester to raise funds.

Employees also dressed in costume as characters from Wicked! The Musical, supporting the Hospice’s Go Green campaign by dressing as the green-skinned Wicked Witch of the West, Elphaba.

Staff from Springhill Hospice and Springy the Mascot also joined the event on the day.

Christian Steels, Branch Director of Santander Rochdale, said: “At Santander Rochdale we are delighted to be able to support Springhill Hospice. They are a fantastic charity who are truly at the heart of Rochdale’s community.

“Whilst participating in their Go Green campaign, it has been abundantly evident how far-reaching the charity is and how many people it has helped over its 30-year existence.

“Our aim was to both raise awareness and raise as much money as possible for the hospice, and Santander has agreed to match any funds we raise in the branch.

“I am incredibly proud that we were able to help such a worthy cause.”

Donations were also received from Rochdale businesses in order to support the local cause.

Ashleigh Hughes, Select Relationship Manager at Santander, said: “We are so grateful to our customers who have helped us raise such a lot of money for such an incredible charity. We would also like to thank some of the businesses that were able to donate prizes to us, which helped so much in our fundraising efforts.

“We would like to say a huge thank you to Manchester City Football Club, Rochdale Football Club, Hopwood Hall, Greg Couzens, Fizz Bomb, Greggs and Peter Jackson the Jeweller for their wonderful generosity and for helping us make our fun day so successful.”

Sophie Ansley from Springhill Hospice said: “All staff and volunteers at the hospice offer our sincere thanks to Santander Rochdale who really took on the challenge of our Go Green Campaign and raised a fantastic amount of money in the process.

“Without the support of Santander and other local businesses, Springhill Hospice wouldn’t be able to provide the standard of care to our community that we do today and over the past 30 years.

“From the funds Santander have raised, this would fund one of our doctor’s to care for our 16 ward patients for the week.”
