Liz McInnes MP calls for action on SEND funding

Date published: 28 June 2019

Liz McInnes, Member of Parliament for Heywood and Middleton, has called for action to address the shortfall in funding for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

Speaking in Parliament, Liz challenged Government Ministers on the projected shortfall of £1.6billion by 2021. The shortfall was identified in a recent report by the Local Government Association (LGA).

After the debate, Liz McInnes MP said: “The LGA estimates councils in England are facing a SEND funding gap of up to £1.6 billion by 2021. All children deserve the opportunity to reach their potential, and they deserve every penny of whatever funding is necessary. The Minister responded that he would be doing his best to address the issue in the spending review, and I will be watching his progress carefully.”
