Rochdale Cancer Research UK shop receives £700 donation

Date published: 05 July 2019

Cancer Research UK’s charity shop on Yorkshire Street will benefit greatly from a donation of over £700 from Rochdale-based business, United Petroleum UK.

The money was raised through charity boxes, thanks to United Petroleum’s customers and staff, and was presented to the Rochdale town centre shop by Tony Lloyd MP, Mayor of Rochdale councillor Billy Sheerin and councillor Faisal Rana.

All proceeds raised will go towards life-saving research.

Sandra Gregory, Cancer Research UK Greater Manchester Area Trading Manager, said: “Cancer Research UK receives no funding from the UK government for its life-saving research.

“Every step the charity makes towards beating cancer relies on vital donations from organisations like United Petroleum UK Limited.”

Councillor Faisal Rana, Director of United Petroleum UK Ltd, said: “I am extremely delighted and pleased to have donated over £700 to Cancer Research UK.”

Councillor Rana has raised money for Cancer Research UK since 2013, in memory of his brother Mohammad Qaisar Khan, who sadly died of bowel cancer six years ago.

In 2015, around 41,800 people were diagnosed with bowel cancer in the UK. It is the fourth most common cancer in the UK. Bowel cancer survival is improving and has more than doubled in the last 40 years in the UK.

Cancer Research UK works to prevent cancer, diagnose it earlier, develop new treatments and optimise existing treatments to make them more effective.
