Part of the Rochdale canal in Middleton has been taped off by police after the discovery of a suspected artillery shell on Tuesday (30 July).
The canal has been taped off near Boarshaw Road and Hereford Way.
A spokesperson for GMP said: “We were called at 11.40am to reports of a suspected historic artillery shell found in the canal off Boarshaw Crescent.
“A cordon is in place whilst the bomb disposal unit is present.”
