Clearing: the best UK universities by subject

Date published: 18 August 2019

If you didn’t get the A-level results you were hoping for this year, you may be at a loss what to do next if you didn’t get a place on your chosen university course.

For those who still want to study for a degree, you can apply for other courses through clearing, which runs from mid-July to September each year.

Not all universities or courses have vacancies, and some may be filled quickly.

To help you choose a subject through clearing, Rochdale Online and Rangewell have ranked universities in the UK with the highest employment rates by subject.

Rangewell ranks universities according to importance of several preferences to enable students to select the best university for them should they be in clearing or deciding on options.

Criteria to help determine the best subject and university for you include: salary once graduated, employment rate, student satisfaction, teaching quality, academic support, course recognition, resource availability, sense of community, student voice and the quality of the student union.

To view, simply download the file at the bottom of this article, which has been ranked by subject, then employment rate.

When applying through clearing, you can only accept one offer. When your place is confirmed, you have to accept it and can’t look for another place.

You can find out which courses have vacancies through UCAS from mid-August to late September:

We appreciate the employment rate after graduating may not be the most important factor for you when applying through clearing.
