Northern launches £500,000 giveaway

Date published: 15 September 2019

Thousands of customers could win back the cost of their Smart season ticket thanks to Northern’s half a million-pound giveaway.

Running until January 2020, customers renewing their Northern Smart season ticket or switching from a paper season ticket to Smart, can enter monthly prize draws to win back its cash value (up to £200).

The draws are open to anyone with a Smart season ticket valid on Northern’s services. In addition, customers with Merseyside Railpass; Greater Manchester Traincard; West Yorkshire MCard ‘Bus & Rail’ and TravelMaster SYConnect+ tickets can also put their names in the draw.

David Brown, Northern’s Managing Director, said: “The customer adoption of Smart tickets has gone over and above our expectations. Now rolled out across our entire network, and with this giveaway, we will see many more people move from paper season tickets to the Smart version with the added incentive of possibly winning back the value of their ticket.”

Northern Smart cards are a quicker and easier way to renew your season ticket and get through the station. So much so that Northern has already issued more than 100,000 season tickets on Smart cards, equating to three million customer journeys. Available as a weekly, monthly or yearly electronic pass, the Smart season ticket offers a hassle-free 60-second process, avoiding the usual last-minute rush to renew.

Customers can renew at any time on a device of their choice - Android smartphone, computer, ticket machine or at a ticket office.

For more information and to request a free personalised card online, customers can visit northernrailway.co.uk/smart or visit their nearest Northern ticket office.
