HMR Circle launches new lunch club

Date published: 05 October 2019

Circle is a membership organisation open to anyone over 50, supporting individuals and communities to lead their lives the way they want.

New event for Kirkholt

HMR Circle launched a new Lunch Club at the Strand Community Hub in Kirkholt on Tuesday 1 October.

Mark Wynn from HMR Circle said "The launch was a tremendous success with a bumper turnout for this opening event. Whenever you start a new project like the Kirkholt Lunch Club-Club you hope people will come, but like the Field of Dreams we did build it and they did come!

"It was a fantastic first effort and thanks to the assistance from our friends and partners at RBH and also support from the Connecting You Fund we hope the Lunch Club-Club will thrive and grow.

"The feedback from the initial Lunch Club-Club was really positive and already new people are already booking on for this weekly Tuesday lunchtime event."

Each week there will be fun and games as well as the opportunity to meet old friends, make new ones and help create a bond within the local community.

Doors open each Tuesday at 12 noon, with lunch served at 1pm.

The cost is only £3. Give HRM Circle a call for more information or to book on 0800 112 3440 or 01706 751165.

University (ten-pin bowling) Challenge

HMR Circle have developed some excellent relationships with the local Universities. There are three projects currently underway with the University of Manchester and Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU).

One of the projects is with University of Manchester MBA students based at the Alliance Manchester Business School. The students are working on how HMR Circle can grow and develop in new areas.

The students are drawn from across the globe and came along to meet HMR Circle members and take part in a Circle social event. Each student joined a team for a ten pin bowling Olympic games.

The students and members had a fabulous time and it also gave the students a real insight into how Circle operates and how the members are at the core of everything.

Volunteers are stars

A great deal of the success of HMR Circle and the Volunteer Drivers Service is down in no small part to the people who volunteer their time to help.

Office based volunteer Peggie recently received her Volunteering Week certificate from HMR Circle Operations Manager, Leanne Chorlton. Peggie volunteers on Monday mornings and rings members to confirm bookings, takes calls and generally helps out with the admin.

Leanne said: "Peggie is a fantastic asset to Circle. Peggie and all our volunteers deserve a huge pat on the back and a big thank you.

"We have some fabulous volunteering opportunities here at HMR Circle and the VDS. Could you answer the phone and take bookings for events and trips? Could you host one of our social events? Do you have a car and could drive people to hospital appointments etc? If so please get in touch."
