National recognition as adult care adaptations team hailed at awards ceremony

Date published: 05 October 2019

Rochdale Borough Council’s adaptations team has scooped the runner-up prize at a major national award ceremony for the service it delivers to local residents.

The adult care home improvements service was praised in the Disabled Facilities Grant Adaptations Service of the Year category at the prestigious Healthy Housing Awards in London.

Judges lauded council staff’s excellent customer service, high quality work and a ground-breaking approach in supporting and helping people to remain independent in their own homes. Adaptations delivered to elderly and disabled residents across the borough include hand rails, grab rails, stair lifts, level access showers and much more.

The award completes a year of success for the home improvement agency following praise in a key national report for improving residents’ sense of control, confidence and day-to-day living.

Councillor Iftikhar Ahmed, cabinet member for adult care, said: “This is a brilliant achievement by adult care staff in our home improvement agency. Over 70 councils were nominated for this prestigious award, so to be in the top two councils in the country underlines the dedicated service the team delivers to residents across the borough.

“I would like to thank the staff for their outstanding work in helping hundreds of elderly and disabled residents to remain independent in their own homes. The home improvement agency is a credit to the council’s adult care service and, day in day out, it is making a positive difference to the lives of so many people. Well done to everyone for giving Rochdale some well-deserved national recognition.”
