Winners of Little‘Pink’Borough’s window displays announced

Two retailers have been named as having the best window display for Little‘Pink’Borough 2019 following Saturday’s (19 October) judging.

Althams Travel and the Pretty Parade boutique were declared joint winners after much deliberation by the judges.

The windows were judged by Deputy Mayor Aasim Rashid, councillors Janet Emsley and John Taylor, and former Littleborough councillor Ann Stott.

Kath and Andy O’Donnell, of the Three Amigo Fundraising Group, which organises the village event each year, said: “This year’s displays were the best yet; it was extremely difficult to pick a winner.

“Eventually they decided on joint winners, Althams Travel and Pretty Parade. The judges liked the concept at Althams of flip flops spelling Little ’Pink’ borough, along with pink sunglasses and beach balls.

“Pretty Parade had a beautiful display including words of encouragement and the Manchester bee. In the shop they had shortbread biscuits for all customers, again with different words of encouragement, with the pink ribbon on them along with other pink displays.

“Thanks to all who have taken part; it’s been great and Littleborough looks amazing in pink. It certainly has had people talking and visiting the village. Thanks to the judges for giving their time, and thank you to Cleland McCliver for sponsoring the event.”

Carole Hallows, branch manager of Althams Travel Littleborough, said: “We are beyond pleased that we were judged joint winners this year: more so because I was diagnosed with breast cancer the day after Little ‘Pink’ Borough ended last year.

“We had decided to put all our efforts into designing this year’s window around our business and we are glad that it caught the judges’ eyes. As well as our window, we are holding a raffle with many prizes being donated by local businesses with the intention to help keep business back in the town.

“We take part every year and thoroughly enjoy the town’s community spirit.”

Mollie Butterworth, Director of Pretty Parade, said: “It is super exciting to be joint winners for the Little ’Pink’ Borough window display.

“We wanted to create a display that was both beautiful and inspiring for those who have been affected by cancer. We also incorporated the Manchester Bee, as that is super important to us. We are also holding a raffle instore for a £150 prize to raise money.”

Both Althams Littleborough and Pretty Parade are holding raffles – simply pop in store to purchase tickets.

As part of Cancer Awareness Month, shops and businesses across Littleborough dress their window displays in fetching shades of pink with a trophy available for the best window.

The event was started in 2016 by The Three Amigos Fundraising for their 10th anniversary in October 2016 to raise funds for Cancer Research UK.

Previous best window displays have been won by Reuse Littleborough, Beauty Boutique and Little Gift Box.
