Packed programme for inaugural Safeguarding Adults Awareness Week

Date published: 04 November 2019

Rochdale’s first ever Safeguarding Adults Awareness Week will be marked with a packed programme of events across the borough.

Running from 18 - 24 November the week showcases free activities, events and training for professionals working with vulnerable adults and residents across the borough of Rochdale.

The aim of the week is to promote the work being done around abuse and safeguarding issues and to highlight Rochdale’s pioneering work across this field.

It provides a key opportunity for public and practitioners to engage, and to be included, in a variety of key adult safeguarding themes and to highlight help and support available locally.

Members of the public will have the opportunity to understand safeguarding best practice and to hear first-hand the work that takes place across the borough of Rochdale.

There are events through the week including a marketplace at Number One Riverside on Tuesday 19 November, which will be packed with useful information on local support available and feature stalls from organisations across the borough.

There will also be an open meeting of the Rochdale Safeguarding Adults Board on Thursday 21 November, which will give members of the public a unique insight into the board’s work.

Rochdale’s Community Safeguarding Forum, aimed at staff and volunteers working in the voluntary, community and faith sectors, will also be meeting and holding briefings on key adult safeguarding themes.

Councillor Iftikhar Ahmed, cabinet member for adult care, said: “This is an important week for the borough, as Rochdale showcases its vital work around adult safeguarding issues. It’s about awareness raising and promoting the visionary work that is done across the local partnership to protect and support vulnerable adults in the borough. I would like to congratulate everyone involved in this excellent initiative.”

Jane Booth, chair of the Rochdale Borough Safeguarding Adults Board, said: “Safeguarding Adults Awareness Week is about promoting and raising awareness of our work around safeguarding issues. This is an opportunity for the wider public to get a unique insight into how we all have a role to play in helping and supporting vulnerable adults across the borough. It promises to be an interesting and informative week for both professionals and residents across the borough of Rochdale.”
