Whitworth High’s attendance challenge leads to tasty treat

Date published: 14 November 2019

Almost 100 per cent attendance for the first half-term saw nearly 60 students from Whitworth Community High School tucking into bacon or sausage butties.

A new attendance challenge has been introduced at school and form 11F and 9C got near perfect figures.

Year 11 forms change at Whitworth and are converted into set groups, so all the students spend their form time with different teachers - science, then English and maths.

Sophie Brook, 15, explained: “That means we can get an extra 15 minutes each day on the core subjects.

“We get to do exam style questions and that prepares us for our mocks.”

Harley added: “We have just finished nine weeks on science, so three weeks extra on biology, physics and chemistry.

“Our reward for the attendance was breakfast from Joshua Law butchers and it was a good reward because I was hungry.”
