Mayor's meeting with Rochdale triplets

Date published: 19 November 2019

The Mayor of Rochdale, Councillor Billy Sheerin, met Rochdale triplets Lucy, Lily and Arthur on Sunday 10 November.

Attending the annual Remembrance Sunday Parade in Rochdale, the triplets went to watch their uncle Craig Grice, who runs the cadets and is also in the Fusiliers, march at the cenotaph, as their family does every year.

Later, they were welcomed into Rochdale Town Hall's Clock Tower Dining Room, where they met the Mayor of Rochdale and Irish comedian Jimmy Cricket.

Mayor Sheerin said: “What an absolute delight it was to meet the triplets. I didn’t get to cuddle just one beautiful baby, but three!

“The day went from one extreme to the other - one minute I was attending a very solemn and emotional memorial service, remembering the fallen, then the next I was absolutely overjoyed to go into the town hall and see a young man, Paul Taylor, who I have known since he was a boy, with his family. It somehow slipped under my radar that he had triplets!

“It was an absolute delight after the memorial service to be confronted with such happiness. It made the day even more special.”

The naturally conceived triplets were born to Rochdale couple, Elise Mitchell and Paul Taylor, in August 2019.

Weighing a tiny 2lb 13oz when she was born, Lily was the first and the smallest of the triplets. She now weighs approximately 7lb 8oz, followed by her identical twin sister Lucy weighing 8lb 6oz and brother Arthur, the biggest of the three, weighing in at 8lb 14oz.

As the triplets turned 12 weeks old on Friday 15 November, mum Elise reflected on the past three months with not just one, but three newborns.

She said: “So far, they have been brilliant babies. We’ve been lucky that they are all easy content and laid back.

"They love being together on the play mat, occasionally they will kick each other but usually one will try to hold the others hand, it’s really cute.

“Arthur is probably the quietest and definitely a mummy's boy. He rolled over for the first time last week and laughed when we all cheered.

“Lucy is a daddy’s girl and is probably the most chilled out of the three, she even sleeps through now which is good.

“Lily is trouble, she causes chaos and loves it (littlest and loudest). She’s also a little darling and always lets the other two go before her at feeding time. She’s the most placid and patient and without a doubt the boss. They all have such different temperaments and mannerisms."

She continued: “Obviously, it’s demanding having three babies, but it’s different when they are your own, you learn what they like and how to settle them. We adore them and are so thankful for them.

“Both families dote on them and everywhere we go they are stopped so people can look.

"We wouldn’t be where we are and doing so well if it wasn’t for the NICU staff at Oldham Hospital, they are all wonderful and gave our children the best start in life.

“Even more so my consultant, doctor Annabel Dieh, who is simply phenomenal. She went above and beyond for us throughout my pregnancy and has even been in touch since to see how the babies are doing. She’s a lovely lady.”
