Rochdale’s Team Karting raises over £3,500 for Children in Need

Team Karting in Rochdale raised £3,596 for BBC Children in Need on Friday 15 November with the help of some of the UK’s top racing drivers.

Located in Ensor Mill on Queensway, Team Karting held a team endurance race with 10 teams taking part, consisting of 60 drivers, who completed a massive 4,070 laps collectively.

There were a number of big names who took part in the three hour event, including 2008 winner of the British Formula Renault Championship Adam Christodolu, TV personality Ross Worswick, and racing champion Ollie Webb, who is from Manchester.

CEO of Team Karting, Matty Street, said: “It’s amazing what a like-minded group of people can achieve.

“We have had the best of the best; we also had some young karters just starting out and coming through the ranks of Team Karting. It was great watching the pro/celeb drivers sit and spend time with these young kids.”

He added: “They all left inspired.”

Team Karting also had an initiative in place where racers could purchase black flags and additional laps, which raised £1,681 alone.

Matty continued: “Kart Force and Team Brit also entered teams into the race. These guys specialise in making motorsport more inclusive and had specially adapted karts so less able-bodied people can compete with a level playing field.”

Kart Force design special karts that disabled people are able to race with and Team Brit is a motor racing team of disabled drivers. Any disabled driver with a full UK driving license can apply to Team Brit’s Academy.

Matty added: “Motorsport is one of the only sports in which this is really possible.

“Someone racing you on the track doesn’t know, or need to know, that you have a disability. They just want to beat you!”
