Double musical success for Wardle Academy

Date published: 20 November 2019

Wardle Academy’s Youth Brass Band has defended its reigning champion title after a flawless performance at the Youth Brass in Concert Championships in Gateshead on Saturday 16 November.

The band produced a fantastically entertaining performance at The Sage which saw them achieve a perfect score of 200/200, whilst Year 11 student Adam Warburton won the soloist award for his rendition of ‘I just called to say I love you’ on the trombone.

A day later, the school’s music department enjoyed further success after performing at the regional National Concert Band Festival in Oldham.

The wind band performed spectacularly and were awarded the highest accolade, a platinum award and an invite to the national finals. Year 10 student Izzak was awarded the Trinity Music College percussion award.

A spokesperson for the school said: “We are extremely proud of all of the students involved in these bands and would like to say a huge thank you to all the staff and parents who continue to support the bands, especially the music tutors.”
