Littleborough Christmas Lights Switch On, Castleton Christmas Carnival, Christmas Artisan Market, Falinge Festival of Lights Parade, The Oxford Christmas Markets, Whisky Tasting Evening, HIV Testing, Rochdale AFC v Boston United, Christmas Health and Wellbeing Event, Motown & 60's Dance Party and Fire Service Museum Christmas Open Day - lots to do in and around the borough this weekend.

Flint Street Nativity – The Curtain Theatre, Fri 29 & Sat 30 November, running until 6 December

Actors firstly play the children in their class, then have to transform into their parents. A hilarious evening’s entertainment.


The Oxford Christmas Markets 2019 – The Oxford Pub, Sat 30 Nov & Sun 1 Dec, 12noon – 8pm both days

Brass bands, mulled wine, festive wreaths, bratwursts and amaretto hot chocolate.


  • Friday 29 November

Falinge Festival of Lights Parade – Falinge Park, 4pm – 8.30pm

Make lanterns from 4pm to be included in the parade at 6pm.


Wardle Christmas Market 2019 – Wardle Conservative Club, 7pm – 9.30pm

With personalised gifts, bath bombs, hampers, clothing and more.


Castleton Literary & Scientific Society – Castleton Community Centre, 7pm

Tonight is The Painted Veil - a film about Middleton's Edgar Wood.


Keith Powell Whisky Tasting Evening – Middleton Masonic Hall, 7pm arrival

Sample five top drawer whiskies, ticket includes pie supper.


Jadek – Touchstones Rochdale, 7.30pm – 9pm

Play about a Yorkshire woman who moves in with her blind 94-year-old grandad. Based on a true story.


Live Music: The Marley Experience – Empire Rochdale, 6pm – 4am

Tribute to Bob Marley.

  • Saturday 30 November

Charity Indoor Car Boot Sale – Smithy Bridge Methodist Church, 9.30am – 11.30am

This month all the proceeds will go to Help for Heroes.


Christmas Artisan Market – The Butts, 10am – 4pm

Filled to bursting with Christmas gift ideas and seasonal temptations, as well as delicious streetfood and local musicians.


The Chorus of Others sing Christmas Carols – Wheatsheaf Shopping Centre, 10am – 3pm

Voices for Mind with The Chorus of Others, stalls and fun and games.


Meet Father Christmas and his elves – Rochdale Exchange Shopping Centre, 11am – 3pm

Meet Santa, elves, stilt walkers and get creative with a doodle cube.


HMR Macmillan Community Cancer Service Christmas Health and Wellbeing Event – Butterworth Hall, 11am – 3pm

Free lunch and refreshments, talks, demonstrations, a choir, raffles, games and stallholders.


HIV Testing at Rochdale Pioneers Museum – Toad Lane, 11am – 3pm

HIV testing clinic for all LGBT people with results in 60 seconds.


Christmas Fair at St Chad’s – Rochdale Parish Church St Chad’s, 11am – 2pm

Festive stalls including jewellery, cakes, books, bric-a-brac


Coach House Christmas Craft Fair – Littleborough Coach House, 11am – 4pm

Wide range of stalls showcasing local craftspeople and their talents.


Littleborough Christmas Lights Switch On – Littleborough Square, 4pm – 6pm

Music, dance and fun-fair and the lights will be switched on by the winner of the Littleborough Lions Peace Poster competition at 5.30pm.


Musical Night – St Andrews Church, Dearnley, doors open 6.30pm

Celebrate St Andrew’s Day and the church Patronal Festival, combined with the start of Advent.


Shout! Motown & 60's Dance Party – Ratcliffe Bars, doors 7pm

With DJ's Nick Robinson and Dave Sweetmore, plus special guests.


Big Guys Don't Cry – Heywood Civic Centre, 7.30pm – 10pm

Paying tribute to Franki Valli, the Four Season, Jersey Boys and some of Motown's biggest stars.


Live Music: Wrong Jovi - Empire Rochdale, 6pm – 4am

Tribute to the hit songs of Bon Jovi.

  • Sunday 1 December

Fire Service Museum Christmas Open Day and Consultation – Greater Manchester Fire Service Museum, 10am – 4pm

Funfair, fire engine rides and a visit from Santa. The Museum is also keen to share its plans of the redevelopment process.


Queen’s Park Cafe Christmas Markets – Queen’s Park, 11am

Festive food and treats. Running every Saturday and Sunday in December.


True Serenity Christmas Fayre 2019 – Castleton Health and Leisure Centre, 11am – 3pm

A variety of unique taster treatments on offer.


FA Cup: Rochdale AFC v Boston United – Crown Oil Arena, 2pm kick off

Following victory over Wrexham, Dale will face Boston United at home in the Emirates FA Cup second round.


Castleton Christmas Carnival & Lights Switch On – Castleton Village Green / Community Centre, 5.30pm – 8pm

Carol singing, Christmas fair, Santa’s grotto and lights switch on by the Mayor.


Jazz on a Sunday – Newtown National Club, doors open 7.15pm

Wall City Jazzmen with Irene Martin.
