Local RSPCA’s longest feline resident Amber faces Christmas without a home

Date published: 05 December 2019

A ginger and white female cat at the local RSPCA branch in Rochdale is looking for a new forever home in time for Christmas.

Amber, who is now 10, has been in the cattery since March and has currently been there longer than any other cat.

‘Queen of Sass’ Amber was originally adopted from the RSPCA as a kitten beside her sister approximately ten years ago but was brought back to the charity due to a change in circumstances with their previous owner.

It would be preferable if Amber was the only feline in a home, as she needs her time and space to properly settle in, and it would also be preferable for her to live in a house with adults.

Since moving back to the RSPCA, Amber’s mood has been fluctuating, causing the charity to separate her from her sister. Amber has gained back her confidence but has unveiled her feisty side.

One of the volunteers at the RSPCA mentioned: “We made the decision to separate the duo, which has made Amber a lot happier, but has unleashed her inner diva.”

In true-diva style, Amber now has her own private bedroom in the RSPCA premises, after lashing out at members of the staff when they tried to clean her bedroom.

Moving Amber to a private bedroom has been a success, as she is now showing her soft side to the staff.

She is now characterised as a “purr machine” by volunteers, who say she is “more than happy to rub all over a stick handle of a string toy.”

The charity mentions that Amber is cautious with hands, but she learns how to trust people and will eventually be fine with hand-petting. She is also playful with stringy and feathered toys.

All Amber needs is a little patience and lots of love: when she finds the right person, she will eventually invest her trust and become a loving pet.
