Support Satire Aid’s Big Fat Secret Santa Appeal 2019 for children living in poverty and care

Date published: 08 December 2019

Satire Aid is once again asking the people of the Rochdale borough to support its Christmas toy appeal for children in poverty and care – the Big Fat Secret Santa Appeal 2019.

Over the last few years, the Satire Aid appeal – made up of the satirical websites and groups, The Rochdale Herald, Newsthump, Angry People in Local Newspapers, The Southend News Network, U OK HUN? and Tuckered - has gifted presents worth over £350,000 to children in poverty, crisis or care around the UK.

A spokesperson for Satire Aid said: “There are almost 550,000 children in the UK who are so poor that they won't receive anything at all for Christmas this year. Some of them are lucky to get food.

“Initiatives like this, Rochdale Giving Back, Reading Family Aid and the amazing Mission Christmas are doing their best to address this.

“We have lots of gifts to choose from in all kinds of price brackets from crayons to guitars, from books to perfume. You don't have to buy much; anything will help.

“Send a little love to a kid who probably doesn't have much of it in his or her life. It only takes a minute and trust us, it'll feel great.”

Readers can donate directly through the gift list: choose your presents and purchase the gift which will be sent directly from Amazon to the toy appeal charity where it will be sorted by volunteers and will make it into the hands of a child on Christmas morning.

The gifts are sent directly to the UK charities listed on SatireAid.com: the appropriate shipping address at the checkout is changed regularly to make sure that all the receiving charities get a share.

Please don't add gift wrapping as the volunteers have to open the parcels to ensure the right gifts get to the right children.
