Generous donation made by Rochdale nurses to local foodbank

Date published: 18 December 2019

Members of the integrated adult nursing team for Rochdale West have been working hard to collect donations for Rochdale Foodbank during the Christmas period.

Rochdale Foodbank collected the donations on 6 December, weighing in at more than 85kg.

A member of the nursing team, Lyndsey Metcalf said: “This has been a fabulous project that has involved many members from our team.

“This is now something we will be doing regularly as other nursing teams are involved.”

John Rowe, of Rochdale Foodbank, said: “It was a very large and extremely generous donation for which we are hugely grateful.

“We have had an amazing response to our appeals for food over the past three months and, at the present moment, our stores are bulging.”

Rochdale Foodbank provides three-days’ worth of goods to those in need, identified by one of over 130 agencies in Rochdale. It was set up in 2012 by Iain and Margaret Wight.

Typically receiving most donations during harvest and at Christmas, donations received by the foodbank must last all year so there is enough to go around.

Last year, more than 6,600 three-day emergency food supplies were given to people in crisis at Rochdale Foodbank, providing more than 2,200 children with provisions.
