Stamford House celebrate national Daisy Mark accreditation with afternoon tea

Date published: 21 February 2020

Residents of Stamford House Care Home in Rochdale have celebrated being awarded a nationally renowned Daisy Mark accreditation by hosting a ‘Daisy Dignitea’ award tea party.

Friends and family joined residents, as did the Mayor and Mayoress of Rochdale, to celebrate the occasion with music, bingo and afternoon tea.

Sheila Ruane, deputy manager, and Nadeeka Jayasinghe, manager, gave them a tour of the home and spoke to staff and residents about their experiences of dignity in care.

Stamford House, which has been rated as Good by the Care Quality Commision, was awarded the accredition by Stockport NHS Foundation Trust.

Daisy Mark is an award-winning accreditation that was developed to enable care homes, hospitals and GP surgeries demonstrate they are providing dignity in care.

Daisy Mark looks at not just how residents are treated, but also how staff are treated and how they treat each other, how visitors are treated and how working practices are monitored, improved and, if appropriate, effectively challenged.

The successful scheme also ensures that good practice is celebrated, recognised and shared across the care sector.

Mayor Billy Sheerin said: "The Mayoress and I went along and met the carers, who had won a daisy award, and the residents. This is a care home that has a lot of dementia patients, and the carers there have shown exceptional qualities in care.

"We visited to acknowledge this achievement and found it a rather special place."
