Planting trees as a sign of hope

Date published: 23 February 2020

Rochdale Council of Mosques has presented St. Chad's Parish Church with two beautiful rowan trees.

The trees were planted on Thursday 13 February by the vicar Reverend Mark Coleman, churchwarden Alan Wild and the Chair of the Golden Mosque, Tahir Mahmood.

The initiative was organised by Asrar Ul-Haq of the Amaani Initiative. This is a family-run project which aims to encourage people to tackle climate change.

Reverend Mark Coleman said: "This is a delightful gift and a reminder to all of us that people have faith. Caring for this beautiful creation made by the one god we believe in is so important. In this town, we are blessed with such great friendship between people of faith.

“Together we can do great things."

Asrar said: "I am delighted to see the Muslim and Christian communities working together in harmony sowing the seeds of a bright future."

Prayers from both communities were also said.
