Pubs, bars and restaurants to close TONIGHT

Date published: 20 March 2020

Pubs, bars, restaurants and cafés must close from tonight (Friday 20 March), to stop the spread of coronavirus, the Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced.

Companies will still be able to provide takeaway food.

Night clubs, theatres, cinemas, gyms and leisure centres have also been asked to close "as soon as they reasonably can".

Communities Secretary Robert Jenrick has confirmed that the following places will close for two weeks, and then be reviewed:

  • Food & drink venues
  • Pubs, bars and clubs
  • Cinemas, theatres, concert and bingo halls
  • Spas, indoor leisure and gyms
  • Casinos & betting shops
  • Museums & galleries
