Neighbours on a Rochdale street helped make a 12-year-old’s birthday in isolation an extra-special occasion.

Residents of Woodstock Street in Meanwood gathered in their gardens on Wednesday 1 April to sing happy birthday to Tia Murfitt-Porter.

Her mum, Lisa, said: “I was struggling to make Tia’s day special whilst being on strict no socialising rules.

“As we have lived here for nine years and have lovely neighbours, I managed to message them all separately and ask if they would join me and my son Grayson in singing happy birthday to Tia.”

The neighbours kept to social distancing guidelines, standing in their gardens, corners of the street – even being joined in by pupils from Meanwood Primary School, where Tia used to attend.

Lisa added: “Tia goes to Oulder Hill High School so we live too far to get them involved. Even the neighbour's baby was involved!

“I was really happy with the turn out and made me very emotional and made my daughter feel special on her birthday.”
