NHS supported with temporary hospital facilities

Date published: 01 May 2020

Extra facilities are being provided at local hospitals for staff to shower and change before or after their shifts.

With an overwhelming demand for facilities and space, the government is working on plans to create temporary hospital extensions that provides additional space for patients, visitors and staff and to comply with safe distancing guidelines.

Portable accommodation experts Elliott UK is providing 2 x 6m Monoblock units to each Pennine Acute Trust hospital – Fairfield, Oldham Royal, Rochdale Infirmary and North Manchester General – each has a double shower and open plan changing facility, one for males and the other for females.

With NHS staff and workers putting themselves at risk every day, the idea is to create a separate safe place for them to prepare for and leave work.

Lockers, benches and racking will also be provided for staff to store their belongings, as well as being used for towel and laundry collections for the hospital. To keep safety and security paramount, digital locks will also be used on external doors for extra peace of mind, and water tanks and generators will be given with fencing for added protection.

Elliott’s North West General Manger, Jonathan Fisher, said: “We have provided a large number of solutions to support our Health Service and Key Industries across the UK in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.

“We are proud that our fast, reliable service has contributed to the exceptional work our NHS is carrying out in these unprecedented times.”
