Motorists and bikers face repercussions after flouting lockdown rules for a kebab and fish and chips

Date published: 04 May 2020

Two motorists and two bikers have faced repercussions after flouting the Covid-19 lockdown rules over the first weekend of May.

Two brothers from Huddersfield had their car seized by police after visiting Rochdale for a kebab, whilst two motorcyclists from Rochdale were fined for travelling to Whitby for fish and chips.

The twins were stopped by the town centre Milkstone and Deeplish team on Saturday night (2 May), where police officers discovered the driver had no insurance, and their Volkswagen had “serious vehicle defects.”

Police say the driver told them “it drives alright” before seizing the car.

The driver was also dealt with for various offences.

Whitby Neighbourhood Policing stopped the Rochdale motorcyclists on Sunday (3 May), who had travelled to the North East town for a traditional seaside supper.

Both were sent home and issued fines for breaching the Covid-19 guidelines.

Essential motor travel during the Covid-19 pandemic covers key workers travelling to and from work, buying essentials such as food or medicine, or delivering essentials to someone who is vulnerable or elderly.
