D&W Cars' Stuart Wild raising £1,000 for Springhill Hospice with series of challenges

Date published: 10 May 2020

Rochdale businessman Stuart Wild is taking on a series of challenges to raise £1,000 for Springhill Hospice.

Stuart, director of D&W Cars in Castleton, is completing a challenge for every £100 raised for the hospice, which provided “unbelievable” palliative care for his grandad, who died in 2009.

Father-of-one Stuart, 35, said: “Springhill Hospice is close to my heart because they cared for my grandad before he died. He was more than my grandad; he was my best friend. We were very close.”

To date, he has completed 20 press-ups and attempted to drink a pint without using his hands, and shared an embarrassing story about how his first bike broke before he could use it.

He has been sharing videos of his challenges on the D&W Cars facebook page, which he runs with his business partner John Dawson, and will continue to do so each time he undertakes a challenge as suggested by visitors to the page.

Speaking about his first bicycle, Stuart said: “My friend asked me to tell the world about when I first got a bike a few years ago. I got this bike because I thought I’d try and keep fit and didn’t do much research into which type, so I bought it online.

“I sat on it, and I broke it: I never got to ride it because the back wheel snapped!”

He also plans to cycle to the Etihad Stadium, home of Manchester City, which he supports, and undertake several other bicycle rides.
