Sparthbottoms fire: two 12-year-olds arrested

Two 12-year-old children have been arrested on suspicion of arson in relation to the Sparthbottoms fire on Saturday (23 May).

The children, a boy and a girl, were arrested, Greater Manchester Police confirmed, and have since been released under investigation.

A man was taken to hospital as a precaution, but has since been discharged.

The fire at a scrapyard on Corporation Street, Rochdale, involved approximately 30 vehicles and a workshop, which was completely burnt out.

Fire crews were on scene for hours to tackle the blaze, which lasted into the following day.
