Springhill Hospice thanks dedicated volunteers this Volunteers’ Week

Date published: 01 June 2020

Springhill Hospice is saying a big thank you to their army of volunteers this National Volunteer Week (1-7 June).

The hospice receives help and support across their services from over 400 volunteers. Recent times have meant that many of the volunteers at the local hospice have been unable to give their time to the hospice, however this Volunteers’ Week hospice staff are taking time out to thank their volunteers who willingly and generously give their time and expertise to support the hospice.

Springhill have been fortunate that during the recent difficult times some volunteers have been able to continue to provide support by giving their time and have helped by working multiple shifts each week, going the extra mile to support front line workers at the hospice.

Last year, volunteers gave 83,800 hours of their own time to support the hospice across all departments from the In-Patient Unit to the Gardening Team and from the Education Team to the charity shops.

Julie Halliwell, Chief Executive of Springhill Hospice said, “This Volunteer Week is a chance for us to say thank you to all of our volunteers and show how much their hard work and dedication is appreciated by everyone here at Springhill.

“For the safety of our volunteers, and our patients and their families, we have asked that as many volunteers as possible stay home throughout the lockdown. However, we are very lucky that there are still some volunteers who are able to continue to support us and the running of the hospice through such a difficult time.

“The support, enthusiasm and dedication of all of our volunteers makes Springhill Hospice the much loved place that it is and this is something that makes everyone here incredibly proud.”

Gill Kenny, Springhill’s Volunteer Co-ordinator said: “A heartfelt and massive thank you to all our inspirational volunteers, whatever you do for Springhill Hospice and wherever you do it. We very much look forward to welcoming you all back to work alongside us, it just isn’t the same without you.”
