Veteran actor nominated for top musical award

Date published: 16 June 2020

Local actor Mike Law has been nominated for best supporting actor in the prestigious Manchester Musical Awards next week. Mike, best known for his involvement with the Curtain Theatre in Rochdale, has received the nod for his role as Arvide Abernathy in Whitworth AMDS production of ‘Guys and Dolls’ last October.

“It was fantastic to have someone like Mike onboard with the production,” said Andy Kelly, the shows director. “The part of Arvide is crucial to the plot of Guys and Dolls and Mike was my first choice for the role of Sarah Brown’s grandfather in the musical. I know how much this nomination will mean to him as he worked extremely hard on his solo number. This nomination is richly deserved.”

The Manchester Musical Awards have been running for over 25 years now and despite the theatre season being cut short this year, the virtual awards ceremony will be free for anyone to attend.

Mike joins three other nominees from Whitworth AMDS - Angela Grady, Kyanna Cronshaw and Jeremy Sleith who are in contention for best overall performer, best actress and best musical director on the show ‘Spring Awakening’ staged last July.

This year’s award ceremony will take place virtually on Saturday 20 June from 7pm.
