Rochdale: temporary local road closures and restrictions

Reason: to resurface the carriageway.

Expected start and finish: 7pm-7am each day, Monday 25 May 2020 - Friday 26 June 2020.
Restriction and location: temporary closure of:

  • St Mary's Gate, from the south side of the junction with Newgate for a distance of 167 metres in a southerly direction.
  • College Road, from its junction with St Mary's Gate for a distance of 308 metres in an easterly direction.
  • Newgate, from its junction with St Mary's Gate for a distance of 60 metres in a westerly direction.

Alternative route:

  • For the work on St Mary's Gate: Newgate and The Esplanade.
  • For the work on College Road: St Mary's Gate, Dane Street and College Road.
  • For the work on Newgate: St Mary's Gate and The Esplanade.

  • Temporary one-way working in a southerly direction along Toad Lane. Vehicles won't be able to travel north along Toad Lane from its junction with Lower Falinge to its junction with Howard Street.
  • Temporary closure of Toad Lane, from the south side of the junction with Lower Falinge to a point 30 metres south.

Alternative route: Water House Street, Redcross Street and Howard Street.

Restriction and location: temporary closure of Hartley Lane from the junction with Lowther Road to a point 40 metres in a southerly direction.
Alternative route: the alternative route will be Lowther Road and Queensway.

  • Middleton: temporary local road closures and restrictions

Area: Middleton
Reason: to construct a new way to access the railway station.

Expected start and finish: 8am, Monday  1 June 2020 - 6pm, Friday  28 August 2020.
Restriction and location: temporary:

  • Closure of the south pavement on Oldham Road from a point 90 metres west of its junction with Mills Hill Road for a distance of 80 metres in a westerly direction.
  • No waiting on the north side of Oldham Road from a point 30 metres west of its junction with Mills Hill Road for a distance of 160 metres in a westerly direction.

Alternative route: a pedestrian crossing will be in place so pedestrias can cross onto the north pavement.

Reason: to construct a sewer overflow in the carriageway. 

Expected start and finish: 6pm, Monday  15 June 2020 - 6pm, Friday  31 July 2020.
Restriction and location: temporary closure of Waverley Road, from its junction with Rochdale Road for a distance of 50 metres in a north-westerly direction.
Alternative route: the alternative route for vehicles is Rochdale Road and Nowell Road.

  • Heywood: temporary local road closures and restrictions

Expected start and finish: ongoing
Work being undertaken: Virgin Media are currently installing new Fibre Broadband in the Heywood area.
Who to contact: for any issues about this work, please use the following methods to gain the quickest and safest possible resolution.

Contractors on site - contact a site supervisor. They are best placed to resolve many issues there and then. In most instances, this will be the quickest and safest way to resolve any issue.

Virgin Media Helpdesk - if unresolved, or there are no contractors in the area, or if the site has been left in an unsafe manner and requires urgent attention, please ring the Virgin Media helpdesk on 0333 000 5925.

The helpdesk hours are: Monday-Friday, 8am-7.30pm, Saturday, 8am-12noon. The helpdesk will alert the contractor and Virgin Media's compliance engineers.

  • To access Bury and Rochdale Old Road on the Bury side: Queens Park Road, York Street, Market Place, Market Street, Bridge Street, Bury Street, Bury New Road, Rochdale Road, Wash Lane, Bell Lane and Rochdale Old Road.

  • The road will be closed from 9.30am-3.30pm each day, Monday 22 June 2020 - 11.59pm, Monday 6 July 2020.
  • The temporary speed limit will be in force from 9am, Monday 22 June 2020 - 11.59pm, Monday 27 July 2020.

Closure and prohibition of waiting at certain hours of the day on:

  • Huddersfield Road, Newhey, from its junction with Woodside to the borough boundary with Oldham.
  • Rochdale Road, Denshaw, from the borough boundary for a distance of 100 metres in an easterly direction.

Temporary 40mph speed limit imposed on:

  • Huddersfield Road, Newhey, from its junction with Woodside to the borough boundary with Oldham.
  • Rochdale Road, Denshaw, from the borough boundary for a distance of 100 metres in an easterly direction.
