Springhill Hospice has received a High Sheriff Special Recognition Award for its outstanding contribution to the community during the pandemic.

The 16 bed In-Patient Hospice, has remained open 24 hours a day, seven days a week since the pandemic began in order to take care of in-patients. They have also continued to provide care out in the community for those who still required palliative care at home.

The prestigious award, which has been presented by the High Sheriff of Greater Manchester, is being given to individuals or groups of individuals who have made an outstanding contribution over the last few months.

The hospice was nominated after its continued and dedicated work was noticed both at the hospice and out in the community caring for those in need and their families. The award said: "It is a wonderful thing to do and you (Springhill Hospice) do it within a framework of strong values. This has been a challenging and difficult period and yet you have continued your vocation with great skill and humility."

“I am incredibly proud of the work that we do here at the hospice and the contributions and sacrifices that our staff and volunteers have made over the past few months to ensure that our patients are supported and continue to be cared for throughout the difficult times we find ourselves in.

“I would also like to thank the local community for their continued support in fundraising and volunteering through the pandemic, without this we would not be able to provide the services that we do.”
