Rochdale mum to thank Home-Start Rochdale with half-marathon

Date published: 05 August 2020

A Rochdale mum of two is to run a half-marathon for Home-Start Rochdale, to thank the charity for all the help it has given her over the years.

Emma Wareing, 28, will be running the 13.1-mile distance on 1 November, after using the lockdown period to improve her fitness and mental health. When she started, Emma ran 3k three times a week which has now improved to between 6 and 10k three times a week.

She said: “Home-Start have supported me on and off for seven years and I honestly don't know where I'd have been without them. They supported me emotionally and financially and what an amazing job they did.

“Suffering with anxiety, I find it very hard to control my emotions and worry about things that others may not see as a big deal.”

Emma has initially aimed to raise £200 - and would like half to go towards a staff meal as a thank you for their help, and the remainder to help other families in need.

Home-Start Rochdale works with local families in times of distress, stopping their problems from spiralling out of control, and often preventing crisis. Tailor-made emotional and practical support is given by trained parent volunteers to families in their own homes.

Families receive Home-Start support for a whole range of reasons, including poverty, poor mental health, illness and disability and multiple births.

Emma added: “I cannot thank Home-Start Rochdale enough for everything they have done for me and my girls, and I will be forever grateful.

“A massive thank you to my support workers Alison and Jess; you are absolutely amazing. Home-Start are very lucky to have you both on their team.”
