Reuse Littleborough celebrates two years of operating from ‘hub that was a pub’

Date published: 03 August 2020

Community group Reuse Littleborough celebrated its second anniversary of operating from its ‘hub that was a pub’ on 2 August.

After moving into the former Royal Oak Hotel in 2018, Reuse Littleborough has grown to support so many people with unwanted items donated by others.

The eco-friendly community group was launched after founder Michael Bamford noticed a discrepancy between the waste we have in our country and those in need in poorer countries.

Founded in 2015 and now based in the centre of Littleborough, Reuse Littleborough started with an online post, asking for donations of unwanted baby items to send to the Forever Angels Baby Home in Tanzania.

After closing in March due to the coronavirus lockdown, the Hub reopened to customers on Tuesday 16 June. It reopened with a special new Parent and Child Resource Centre for key support workers like social workers, health visitors and midwives to access items for their clients.

Michael said: “So many local families and charities have benefitted from our efforts and your donations. Feedback has been heart-warming and rewarding.

“The amount of donations at times is mind-blowing; it makes it difficult when we are not allowed to handle them for 72 hours and have to put them in quarantine, but we manage.

“We do struggle with no transport and could be so much bigger and better with some local help like storage, a van, and strong people to move items. If you can help, please contact us.

“Thank you all to your continued support.”
