Adult care staff get into top gear to raise vital funds

Council adult care staff have gone the extra mile to raise vital funds for local care homes.

Rochdale East neighbourhood team got on their bikes and took part in sponsored activities to support older and vulnerable residents.

They raised over £800 through cycling, walking and running hundreds of miles in their spare time.

The cash will be donated to care homes in their patch to help with social events to boost residents’ wellbeing.

Councillor Iftikhar Ahmed, cabinet member for adult care, said: “This is a wonderful initiative underlining the caring approach of our adult care teams. I would like to congratulate the Rochdale East neighbourhood team on their thoughtful idea.

"They have been putting in the hard yards at work and in their spare time, underlining their commitment and work ethic. By going the extra mile, scores of residents at local care homes will now benefit. Well done to everyone involved.”

Holly Nolan, an advanced practitioner for adult care, said: “The idea came up in one of our team meetings. Everyone was doing some daily outdoor exercise during the lockdown period, so we thought it would be great to volunteer and raise money for local care homes.

“It has been good fun, improved our wellbeing, made us fitter and helped the local care sector. Our target was £600, which we easily achieved, so I am really proud of everyone in the team.”
