Online courses launched at Centre of Wellbeing, Training and Culture

Date published: 04 February 2021

Online courses in health awareness and employability skills have been launched by the Centre of Wellbeing, Training and Culture.

The new courses were launched by Councillor Allen Brett, leader of Rochdale Borough Council, who said: “I am proud to announce and congratulate the Centre of Wellbeing, Training and Culture (CWTC) for using their digital expertise in developing online courses and cultural activities under very challenging circumstances to meet the social, cultural, information and linguistic needs of service users of the borough and Greater Manchester.

“This is great news for the diverse communities to enhance individual knowledge and skills in health awareness and job skills and move into digital inclusion.

“Rochdale Borough Council supports CWTC in many ways and encourages our Voluntary Sector to thrive. I am also thankful to Community Fund, Arts Council and Children in Need for their funding to CWTC to support this development”.

The courses currently available include; Understanding Dementia, Supporting Carers and Awareness of Diabetes. New employability courses available soon will include; Computer and Online Basics, Customer Service, Understanding Mental Health and Wellbeing and Principles of Working in Business Administration.

Mohammed Sarwar, Chief Executive of CWTC, said: “I am grateful to Councillor Brett for launching our online service. This is our proud moment. We have been working very hard over the eight months through the guidelines to learn the process for online systems, develop content materials and recruit online tutors.

“Previously we had delivered the courses face to face, but due to the pandemic, we were not able to deliver some of the services. This will now enable us to continue some of our online services for future.

“We do pride ourselves in digital expertise, but this has mainly been possible through our funders who have been very understanding and flexible to utilise the funding for the need to develop this service and resource.

“There is also a lot to develop to meet the linguistic and cultural needs, but with the support of diverse colleagues and our staff, we will continue to support our communities.”

A registered community organisation, the Centre of Wellbeing, Training and Culture moved from the Unique Enterprise Centre on Belfield Road to new premises on East Street last September.
