Work starts on 32 new houses in Kirkholt

Date published: 13 February 2021

The first spade is in the ground for RBH’s latest new social housing development in Kirkholt, with Lovell Partnerships now on site at the Strand as work starts on 32 new family homes.

The project includes 10 two-bedroom houses, 18 houses with three bedrooms, and four four-bedroom houses. Two of the four-bedroom homes can accommodate a range of adaptations, creating much-needed homes that will be suitable for families with a disabled child or parent.

The homes are the latest development in the regeneration of the Strand area. Over the past decade, Kirkholt has been transformed – with Rochdale Council, RBH, the local NHS, community groups, and local residents all working together in partnership to deliver new homes, improve existing homes, and create new and improved community facilities.

The homes have been designed by Triangle Architects, who also designed the adjacent Strand Hub and the new Kirkholt health centre. Homes England have provided additional funding support.

Clare Tostevin, RBH director of growth, said: "We’re really pleased to get started on these new homes and we’re proud to be part of an ongoing partnership that is delivering new homes, new community facilities, and a brighter future for Kirkholt.”

Lee Sale, regional managing director at Lovell Partnerships North West, said: "We’re thrilled to have the first spade in the ground at The Strand and to be working with RBH on another scheme, building on our long-standing partnership. This is a really exciting development as it will deliver a wide range of much needed affordable housing for the local area as well as helping to meet the regional and national housing targets.”

Councillor Neil Emmott, cabinet member for quality of place at Rochdale Borough Council, said: “It’s great to see another fantastic regeneration project progress on Kirkholt, as part of the wider transformation of this area. Having accessible and good quality housing is vital to people’s health and wellbeing, so these homes will be a really welcome addition to the area.”
