Successful first week for HMR Circle Dinner Drivers

Date published: 25 February 2021

The HMR Circle Dinner Drivers Project successfully delivered 41 fresh meals in its first week.

Dinner Drivers, in partnership with The Veterans Food Company and Rochdale Boroughwide Housing (RBH), is based on the idea of meals-on-wheels and aims to deliver a two-course meal directly to older people's doors, helping them enjoy a professionally made, nutritious meal with the bonus of staying connected to their community.

The service was set up as part of the three-year anniversary of HMR Circle last month, with a plan for lunches to be delivered to people's door weekly between 12noon and 1pm.

Recipients - aged over 50 - were treated to chicken and mixed vegetable casserole, dumplings and gravy, buttered cabbage and new potatoes, followed by a dessert of vanilla sponge and custard.

The meals were all freshly made on the day with preparation starting at 8am in the morning led by Chef Noel from The Veterans Food Company and assisted by Rachel from Rochdale Boroughwide Housing (RBH).

The HMR Circle 'Dinner Drivers' arrived at staggered intervals to collect their pre-arranged dinner drops, with clear instruction on any special requirements.

Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale (HMR) Circle is a not-for-profit community interest company which works to reduce social isolation in older people through social events, practical support, befriending and a volunteer drivers service.
