'Running Manc' nears end of a year-long challenge

Date published: 08 March 2021

For almost a whole year, Daniel Kristof has run 5k every day to raise money for charity.

Since 1 April 2020, Daniel has been running around Rochdale, Newhey, Shaw and Saddleworth in aid of The Team Hill Charitable Trust & Destination Florida Children’s Charity.

Now, with under a month to go until the one year milestone, Daniel, who has been posting his journey online under the name ‘The Running Manc’, has raised over £3,000 for his cause and lost 4.5 stone – running through a global pandemic, running through every type of weather, running through injury and even running in his garden when self-isolating.

On the final day – Wednesday 31 March – Daniel intends to run his first ever marathon distance of 26.2 miles, starting in Rochdale and finishing at Media City UK in Salford.

He said: “I intend to run my first ever marathon distance, starting in Rochdale where I’m based, into and around Manchester, stopping by both charity headquarters before finishing at Media City UK, with hopefully lots of support from family, friends and supporters who I’ve been able to share my journey with.”

Explaining his choice of charities, Daniel said: “Team Hill raises money for local initiatives and causes, such as giving comfort packs to Royal Oldham Hospital, whilst Destination Florida takes 70 people every two years to Disney, Universal Studios, shopping etc., who wouldn’t necessarily be able to go on holiday.”

Daniel first became aware of the charity after Destination Florida contacted a family friend, whose daughter was injured in an accident, whilst he knew Steve Hill MBE, a teacher and ultramarathon runner who set up the Team Hill Charitable Trust.
