Reel Cinema Rochdale to reopen on Monday 17 May

Date published: 09 May 2021

Following a challenging year of national lockdowns, tier systems and false starts, Reel Cinema Rochdale has announced that it is re-opening its doors to the public on Monday 17 May.

Reel Cinema Rochdale manager, Saeed Murtaza said: “We really appreciate the patience of our customers and our staff during these challenging times - we can’t express enough how delighted we are to finally re-open our cinema doors to everyone! On top of that we have a great range of new films to watch, including Peter Rabbit 2 and Spiral: From The Book of Saw (both released on 17 May), and Disney’s Cruella, coming to us on 28 May."

Some of the films that you will be able at to see at Reel Cinema Rochdale in May include:

  • Peter Rabbit 2
  • Nomadland
  • Spiral: From the Book of Saw
  • Mortal Kombat
  • Tom & Jerry
  • Godzilla vs Kong
  • Raya & The Last Dragon
  • Maya the Bee 3: The Golden Orb
  • Little Things

Reel Cinema will continue to adhere to all appropriate Covid-19 government guidelines once it reopens, for the safety of customers and staff. These include:

  • Requiring all customers to log into the national Track & Trace system upon their arrival
  • The wearing of a face covering inside the cinema
  • The placement of hand sanitiser stations at all entry points and within the cinema foyer
  • Limited seats available for all performances, with staggered film times to allow for social distancing
  • Enough time for the deep cleaning of all auditoria before the start of each show

Reel Cinemas were grateful recipients of the Culture Recovery Fund from the BFI and the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) in February. This funding has been used to ensure the sustainability of the business and the job security of staff.

Muhammad Faisal, Head of Operations at Reel Cinemas, said: “It is with a grateful heart that we are able to continue to bring big screen movies back to the local community. We have been working very hard behind the scenes to carry out all the government’s Covid-19 safety measures, so that everyone can come, relax and enjoy the ultimate cinema experience we have to offer.”

With the release of many key theatrical titles postponed once or more, and the need for cinemas to remain closed so far in 2021 as part of the national lockdown, the sector has been under a great deal of pressure. Earlier this year Reel Cinemas launched a complimentary film offering in the form of Reeload, their new online streaming service. Reeload offers films to rent and watch via desktop computer, laptop, smart phone or smart TV. Reeload launched with La Scala’s acclaimed production of Puccini’s Tosca, with new content coming soon.
