Rochdale in Bloom partners with Crystal Doors to launch new website

Date published: 21 June 2021

You’d be forgiven for thinking that the coronavirus pandemic these past 16 months might have put a stop to the volunteer work carried out by Rochdale in Bloom. Yet when rules have allowed, families and individuals have been out tending the usual award winning In Bloom sites and sowing new wildflower meadows, like at the Caldershaw Meadow site.

Behind the scenes the gold award winning team have also used the time to develop a new website thanks to the generous sponsorship of Richard Hagan at Crystal Doors. Having lost access to their previous website two years ago, volunteers turned to social media to keep residents up to date with their projects. With interest blossoming in the local environment and gardening due to lockdown, the group decided now was the time to bring the site back.

The new website enables residents to register as a volunteer, keep up to date with latest news, and showcases the numerous In Bloom sites across the borough.

Richard Hagan, owner of Crystal Doors, said: “Rochdale in Bloom’s incredible achievements have improved biodiversity and local community spaces for all to enjoy. Before meeting the team, I had no idea that so few volunteers delivered such a number of visible attractions in our borough.

“I immediately offered to fund the full cost to design and run a new website to showcase their dedication and incredible work, and inspire others to join their group. I believe local environmental action and community support is the responsibility of our business owners.”

Roy Down, Rochdale in Bloom Chairman, said: “Forming a partnership with Richard and Crystal Doors fits right into the ethos of Rochdale in Bloom. His company has to be one of the most environmentally conscious in our region. He has supported the creation of our brand new website and has pledged his support for future projects. When In Bloom decided to look for new partners, a little research soon led us to Crystal Doors, thankfully for us, Richard was more than happy to talk to us. The Rochdale in Bloom group can learn so much from Richard's experience and how we can move forward as a group.”

The website will continue to grow and be updated over the next few months. Visit rochdaleinbloom.com to find out more.
