Rochdale: temporary local road closures and restrictions

Area: Rochdale
Reason: to promote social distancing measures due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Expected finish: Sunday 2 January 2022, or until such measures are deemed unnecessary.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of Packer Street, from its junction with South Parade.
Alternative route: the alternative route is The Esplanade, Manchester Road, Drake Street, School Lane and Church Lane.
Organised by: Rochdale Borough Council.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: to enable an archaeological dig to take place.

Expected start and finish: 1 July 2021 - 31 January 2022.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of Packer Street, from its junction with South Parade up to and including its junction with Nelson Street. And temporary closure of Fleece Street, from its junction with King Street to its junction with Packer Street.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: to resurface the carriageway.

Roadworks will begin at 7am and finish at 11.59pm the following day on the listed weekends:

  • Saturday 11 September - Sunday 12 September 2021
  • Saturday 18 September - Sunday 19 September 2021
  • Saturday 25 September - Sunday 26 September 2021
  • Saturday 2 October - Sunday 3 October 2021
  • Saturday 9 October - Sunday 10 October 2021
  • Saturday 16 October - Sunday 17 October 2021

Restriction and location:

  • Temporary one-way working northbound along Kingsway, from the north side of the junction with Moss Bridge Road to a point 788 metres in a northerly direction. Southbound vehicles won't be affected.
  • Temporary prohibition of waiting on both sides of Kingsway, from the north side of the junction with Moss Bridge Road for a distance of 788 metres in a northerly direction.

Alternative routes: the alternative route for vehicles will be Sir Isaac Newton Way, Elizabethan Way, Rochdale Road, Milnrow Road and Kingsway.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: to repair gas mains in the carriageway.

Expected start and finish: 8am, Monday 13 September - 5pm, Friday 17 September 2021.
Restriction and location: temporary suspension of the mandatory cycle lane on Mellor Street, from a point 200 metres south of its junction with Bridgefold Road for a distance of 15 metres in a northerly direction.

Middleton: temporary local road closures and restrictions

Area: Middleton
Reason: to resurface the carriageway.

Expected start and finish: 7.30am-5.30pm each day from Saturday 24 July - Friday 10 September 2021.
Restriction and location: temporary closure of Windermere Road, from its junction with Wood Street to its junction with Bowness Road.
Alternative routes: alternative routes for vehicles will be signed on street when the closures are in place.

Area: Middleton
Reason: to replace a leaking water fire hydrant in the carriageway.

Expected start and finish: 10am, Monday 6 September - 10am, Monday 27 September 2021.
Restriction and location: temporary closure of Colson Drive, from a point 91 metres north east of its junction with Hall Drive for a distance of 33 metres in a north easterly direction.
Organised by: Rochdale Borough Council.

Area: Middleton
Reason: to assist traffic management and movement, and maintain public safety, during the Parklife event in Heaton Park.

Expected start and finish of restrictions and locations:

  • 8pm - 1am, Friday 10 September - Monday 13 September 2021: temporary closure of the roads listed below, for their entire length.
  • 9am - 1pm, Friday 10 September - Monday 13 September 2021: no waiting, loading or unloading on any of the roads listed below, for their entire length.

Heywood: temporary local road closures and restrictions

Area: Heywood
Reason: Virgin Media are currently installing new Fibre Broadband in the Heywood area.

Expected start and finish: ongoing
Who to contact: for any issues about this work, please use the following methods to gain the quickest and safest possible resolution.

  1. Contractors on site - contact a site supervisor. They are best placed to resolve many issues there and then. In most instances, this will be the quickest and safest way to resolve any issue.
  2. Virgin Media Helpdesk - if unresolved, or there are no contractors in the area, or if the site has been left in an unsafe manner and requires urgent attention, please ring the Virgin Media helpdesk on 0333 000 5925. The helpdesk hours are: Monday–Friday, 8am–7.30pm & Saturday, 8am–12noon. The helpdesk will alert the contractor and Virgin Media's compliance engineers. Alternatively, please email expansionworks@virginmedia.co.uk with details of your address and preferred contact method.
  3. Rochdale Borough Council Highways - we need to be aware of issues being raised with Virgin Media. Please email highways@rochdale.gov.uk or phone on 0300 303 8879, Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm. At all other times, please phone our Contact Centre on 0300 303 8875 for emergency work on the highway.

Area: Heywood
Reason: to allow an inspection of the railway bridge to take place.

Expected start and finish: 8pm, Tuesday 14 September - 5am, Wednesday 15 September 2021.
Restriction and location: temporary closure of Pilsworth Road, from its junction with Broadfield Street for a distance of 165 metres in a southerly direction, to the entrance of Broadfield Business Park.
Alternative route: the alternative route for vehicles is Pilsworth Road, Moss Hall Road, Heap Brow, Bury New Road (A58), Bury Street (A58) and Bridge Street (A58).
