16-25 year olds urged to join Groundwork Prince's Trust self-development programme

Date published: 17 September 2021

Groundwork Prince’s Trust is reminding young people of Rochdale about their upcoming self-development programme due to begin on Monday 20 September.

Based at Spotland Community Centre on Spotland Road, the 12-week programme – for those aged 16 to 24 – is designed to build your confidence, communication, reliability and teamwork as you work on leadership skills and employability in a relaxed setting.

The course offers work experience, qualifications, practical skills, community projects and a residential week to open the door to work or further training.

A representative of Groundwork Prince’s Trust said: “We do the above through activities, ice breakers, tasks and challenges. These can be anything from designing a poster, to a quiz or even a challenge to design and build a model out of any material, or solve a problem.

“With each section there is a small booklet to fill in, no essays just a few sentences. We do this so we can build up evidence to prove you have done the programme and gain the qualification. In the employability section we work on CV’s, interview prep and mock interviews.

“Depending on the Covid situation, we will try and fit in two weeks work placement as well as four days of outdoor activities, such as rock climbing, abseiling and hill walking.

“We will be running the programme mainly from Spotland Community Centre, but there will be some elements done at home or via Zoom.”

Groundwork provides a weekly bus pass, so there are no transport costs for you getting to and from Spotland Community Centre.

There is only space for 12 people on the upcoming programme. To join you cannot be working, in education or on an apprenticeship. If you are aged 19 or over, you must be claiming benefits.
