George Meyrick’s Exhibition “Aligned/Raised/Lowered/Offset/Paired” is now on display at Touchstones Rochdale
Touchstones Art Gallery and Museum has launched a new exhibition, “Aligned/Raised/Lowered/Offset/Paired”, showcasing the geometric artwork of Todmorden-based artist, George Meyrick.
Meyrick’s work focuses on using simple, geometric forms to create works that can be interpreted in multiple ways.
The artist also incorporates elements of the gallery into his work and was particularly struck by the continuous, uninterrupted wall panel that wraps around the exhibition space at Touchstones.
Speaking of his latest exhibition, George Meyrick said: “At first glance, my works may seem difficult to explain and understand, but this is a key part of interpreting them. Imagined alternative interpretations of the elements are a key part of the visual experience.
“I love encouraging the viewer to make their own judgement on the work, and it exists to be individually interpreted, resolved and recreated in their minds.
“The tongue twister “What’s here was there, there’s what was here” is a succinct way of summing up my work, as it is constantly changing and moulding to the observers’ eyes.”
Mark Doyle, Co-Head of Culture at Touchstones Rochdale, said of the exhibition: “We’re delighted to be showcasing George Meyrick’s striking artwork here in Rochdale.
“The works offer a real opportunity for individual interpretation, encouraging visitors to make their own perceptions on the artwork; which is one of the most appealing parts of visiting an exhibition.
“This is only the start of a series of exciting new exhibitions at Touchstones, as we welcome the works of Turner Prize winner, Helen Cammock and London-based artist, Jasleen Kaur.”
