Three teenage boys have been arrested on suspicion of burglary after an attempted burglary in the Balderstone area of Rochdale.

The boys, aged 14, 16 and 18, were all arrested on suspicion of burglary. The 14-year-old was also arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon after being found in possession of a machete and a knife.

Two of the boys had entered a home on Fairlands Street at around 1.05am before being disturbed by the occupants and fleeing the scene. The boys were pursued by officers and one was swiftly detained nearby.

Following an area search by divisional officers and a police dog, the other two boys were arrested within 30 minutes in Balderstone Park.

Enquiries are ongoing and they remain in custody for questioning.
